I love sweet tea. Seriously, love it. Now that I’m on the Trim Healthy Mama (THM) path, I had to find a way to make my tea THM style.
At first, I thought I would have to give it up entirely because I didn’t like drinks sweetened with powdered stevia or the Skinny Girl liquid sweetener. After some more searching, I found Erythritol.
And hallelujah it tastes like sugar!! No yucky aftertaste. No funky film left in your mouth.
After some experimenting, I found the perfect sweet tea recipe (for me). Of course, you can change the amount of tea bags or sweetener used to suit your own taste.
Trim Healthy Mama Sweet Tea
I use the electric kettle that we received as a wedding gift. When we did the registry for our wedding, the kettle was something my husband picked out. As it turns out, I’m the one who uses it all the time!
I fill it about half-full with filtered water and switch it on. While that comes to a boil, I open 6 regular tea bags and put those in my carafe. I use a smaller 2-quart one because I’m the only one who drinks it. My hubby and the kids still drink their tea with sugar.
I put 1/3 cup Erythritol in the carafe with the bags and once the kettle switches off, I pour the boiling water over it all. I give it a quick stir and put the lid on. After about 10 minutes or so I fish the tea bags out and fill the carafe to the top with more filtered water.
I like my tea cold… I mean really cold. But I don’t like putting ice in it because it dilutes the tea.
My solution? I put the carafe in the freezer.
After an hour or so, the tea turns into a kind of slush and let me tell you it is delicious!! Once it reaches this point I put the carafe in the fridge and it stays super cold for the rest of the day.
