Abide – My One Word for 2016

So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples.” John 8:31 (ESV)

Abide

abide (verb):

1.  To stay; to continue in a place.

2. To wait; to pause; to delay.

3. To remain stable or fixed in some state or condition; to continue; to remain.

4. To wait for; to be prepared for; to await; to watch for.

5. To endure; to sustain; to submit to.

When I began thinking of what my word for 2016 would be, many things came to mind. Most of them were applicable to my life now. And that was the problem. I needed something for the future.

My word for 2015 was Faithful. I hoped to be found faithful at home, at church, in my personal growth. Did I maintain that hope and see it through? Yes, for the most part. There is always room for improvement, but I believe know that I am closer to the Lord, a better wife and mother than I was at this time last year.

Why abide?

Perhaps my favorite definition is found in Strong’s Concordance (G3306) – to remain as one, not to become another or different. To remain.  To remain in Christ. To remain like Christ. To stay in Christ. To stay in His Love. To stay in His words. To stay in obedience. To stay in His presence.

My hope, my goal, my thirst in 2016 is to stay in His presence. I pray that my light would shine brighter than ever before because He is closer than ever before.

This is a song that we sing in worship at church. . . Here in Your Presence

This. This right here. This is where I plan to spend my 2016- in His Presence.
