LearnBop Online Math Tutor Review

Our family is no stranger to online math curriculum. Thanks to the Schoolhouse Review Crew, we have sampled many different programs. Most recently we had the pleasure of reviewing LearnBop. Specifically, we received LearnBop for Families, which is a 12 month subscription to the Family Plan for up to four students.

LearnBop has been a part of the K-12 public school system for a while, but has recently opened up their program to homeschoolers. They offer interactive math tutoring for grades 3-12. You can choose either a grade level or a specific math concept for your child to work through.

The specific math concepts include:

  • Operations & Algebraic Thinking
  • Number & Operations in Base Ten
  • Measurement & Data
  • Geometry
  • Number & Operations-Fractions
  • Ratios & Proportional Relationships
  • The Number System
  • Expressions and Equations
  • Statistics & Probability
  • Functions
  • HS-Algebra I
  • HS-Algebra II
  • HS-Geometry

Julia was my primary user for this review. She’s 13 and worked her was through a few different concepts including Measurement & Data, some Geometry, and some Number & Operations-Fractions. LearnBop recommends using the program for at least one hour per week. Julia probably averaged two and a half to three hours per week.

What about monitoring your student’s progress?

Monitoring your child’s success is super easy with LearnBop. Your student’s Learning Roadmap is their progress through the course or subject they are working on. You can see their progress for each unit on the left hand side, and each concept within each unit on the right.

Keeping the kids interested

The biggest motivator for Julia was the Achievements- the badges given for effort and work. Did you catch that? They reward for effort, not perfection.

At LearnBop, our mission is for students to know that it’s OK to make mistakes as long as they learn from them.

There are two different plans available for homeschoolers:

Single Student Plan

  • Subscription (month to month) $14.95
  • Prepaid (12 months prepaid) $149.95

Family Plan—Up to 4 Students

  • Subscription (month to month) $19.95
  • Prepaid (12 months prepaid) $199.95

Our bottom line

LearnBop has the potential to be a great program for children who have gaps in their math knowledge. It could also be very useful for keeping the summer-break-brain-drain from taking place.

Having the ability to use the program on many different devices (laptop, desktop, tablet. . . ) makes LearnBop very convenient to use and easy to take on the go. I don’t know that this is a perfect fit for our family- my children are more accustomed to physical workbooks and pencils- but I totally recommend it for other families whose children truly have need for such a program and enjoy online learning.
